Sintra on wheels
In August, 2016, on my way to Portugal I knew I had to visit Sintra. I've seen many pictures before of the beautiful Pena Palace and Quinta de Regaleira and I knew I couldn't leave Portugal before seeing it all. Doing a previous research about how the location I found a lot useful information for tourists, like buses and trains timetables, attractions open hours and prices. But, one unknown attraction made our trip to Sintra a lot more fun and amazing that we had expected.
Right outside Sintra's train station, local business people were holding signs about these yellow mini cars for rent. First I was very skeptical, I have never heard anything about these little cars before. Listening to our adventure spirit my friend Philip and I decided to rent one of these cars and do the whole tour driving. Excited, we head out to explore Sintra:
The autonomy of driving among such natural and historical beauty is amazing. The weather was perfect, sunny day and blue sky. The Pena Palace is located at the top of a mountain and driving upwards you can see the whole city from there. The roads are sometimes very narrow and overall very quiet. The vegetation was beautiful and landscapes were endless.
We rented the yellow card for only three hours, but we ended up spending almost five hours to finish the route and head back to the city. We just couldn't stop exploring the roads and admiring the beautiful scenario. We even got a little lost on the way back and ended up in a beautiful part of the city that we wouldn't get to see following the given route.
When going to Sintra. you must as well rent the yellow cars. That was the best part of our trip. I hope your trip to Sintra to be as fun as mine was. And it's sharing moments like this that we'll be able to really understand what makes a destination special.
