There are no words to describe the epic beauty of America’s 49th state. Alaska has that power over mankind and, yet the north turns all your perspectives upside down and makes you speechless, I’m going to give it a try.
On day 3 of our trip to the last frontier with Man Expeditions, we planned a hiking upwards the majestic Mount Marathon. If the name doesn’t ring you a bell, it is this massive mountain, wildly steep and mesmerizing. Every year at the 4th of July, the Alaskans have the Mount Marathon Race, with competitors from all over the world. It claims to be the toughest hiking trail you will find and here you can see that it’s no picnic:

We started our journey right at noon. The weather was fantastic; sun was bright and shining, perfectly suitable for the not so hot Alaskan summer. The path is severe and challenging. After 20 minutes of hiking, we stopped for a quick break. That's when we decide to look what was behind us and that took us to awe state. The view was breath-taking. From that point, we could see this impressive lake, result of the melting ice of the mountain range. The juxtaposition between the ice on the horizon and the bright sun above us only showed how incredible Mother Nature can be.
At the summit, we all gathered around to chat, have lunch and appreciate that incredible sight. Mount Marathon is 906 meters (2974 feet) tall and from there you can see the whole Seward City, whose motto is “Alaska starts here”.

But the biggest surprise was yet to come. Man Expeditions hired a helicopter service to bring some supplies to the peak for our get-together experience. It also brought a fellow adventurer, unable to join us for the hiking. We had the greatest time possible. A couple hours later, our group was ready to begin our way back and I was one of the lucky ones to join the pilot and leave the ground.

That was my first time in a helicopter and I was over the moon. As it took off I could see the landscape turning into distant colors and shapes. It was definitely the cherry on the top of a delicious adventure. The sun was reflecting on the lake's water and that was a view worth a million dollars. Here's a video from my helicopter ride:

The unexpected moments of that trip made the whole experience even more amazingly special. I was so fortunate to be there and to have found Man Expeditions.
